5 FALL BASICS YOU NEED

denim, slouchy knit, fall style, petite fashion, gold hoops, hollow hoops, fall sweaters, pleated midi, casual basics

Yes, even I, the queen of color and prints, wear neutrals! And jeans!

I hadn't planned to post today and only have a couple of pictures of this outfit - only candids. But I wanted to share a few of my recent finds because they're all such good DEALS and because they're pieces every Autumn/Winter wardrobe needs no matter what your style. They're also all under $100 so they're super budget-friendly. Too good not to share even though I don't have images for all of them.

1. NEUTRAL SLOUCHY SWEATER

First up, a slouchy knit, is a total must-have for casual outfits. With a piece like this, it's all about texture and drape. I love this chunky grey one, unfortunately only available in limited sizes right now.  Also love this gorgeous berry chunky sweater - almost all sizes available in this one right now. This heather grey slouchy knit is also one of my faves and this one in black with the cool tapered wrists. This type of sweater is perfect for those late Fall days when you can still get away without a coat but definitely need something warm. I layered under with a basic black tank and black long sleeved tee for added warmth. A slouchy neutral knit is really just perfect for any day when you don't want to put much thought into wardrobe but still want to look cute.

2. SLOUCHY JEANS

Mine are MEGA slouchy. They do also stretch out quite a bit so I would size down by one or even 2 sizes. What I really like about this pair is that they're super flattering for pear shapes. Even though it's all about high-rise and mom jeans right now (and those are definitely flattering too), I love that these ride low and sit on the hips. I have major saddle-bags and really like that the low loose fit helps minimize the bumps a little. Also these are "ankle-length" so they work really well for petites. These are definitely casual jeans but they're perfect for bumming around, running errands or just being comfy. I mean they really feel like PJ's, and also they hang off you a little so you have to be cool with that ultra baggy look, but they are beyond comfortable. And, the best part, they're only $20 - what! PS: I'm wearing the Blue65 for reference.

3. GOLD HOOPS

Gold hoops are an all time classic and right now large hollow hoops in particular, are all the rage. These Ippolita hoops set the standard but this 14K gold pair are super similar and are only around $70. You can wear them with everything. And they work across different types of styles which is great for someone like me who likes to experiment with different styles and looks.

4. PLEATED MIDI SKIRT

A good pleated midi skirt like this one in dark olive is a Fall essential. As someone who doesn't wear pants that often, these are my go-to piece, my wardrobe workhorse. I could wear pleated midis every day if I had to. For Fall and Winter they look so cute with chunky knits, like my chunky sweater here, or with a sleek turteneck and boots for a more lady-like polished look. There are so many colors and prints to choose from but for me the quintessential midi skirt will always be a metallic. Because metallics have the power to go from everyday, to party, and back again, with a simple change of top. This gold one is one of my top picks for the holidays and beyond. It's currently on sale for 40% off with code HAPPY. For a shorter length and possibly more petite friendly depending on your size, this gold pleated number is only $30 and comes in two other metallic colors as well if you're not feeling the gold. You can see a metallic midi skirt look in this recent post if you want to see a pleated midi styled for day time. For more pleated midi skirt picks, head to last week's post where I picked out some of my other top red and metallic midi skirts. For an unexpected and cheery hue that will brighten the winter doldrums out of anyone I love this bright coral hued skirt for Winter.

5. FITTED TURTLENECK

This is another piece that I wear over and over again in the colder months. For one, I need something to layer under wool and cashmere because I have really sensitive skin and find everything to be itchy. This tissue turtleneck has been my favorite for years and I always buy several new colors each season - see the purple styled here. I also love a fitted turtleneck for sartorial purposes. In the colder months they really help to jazz up outfits by easily adding dimension to your look - see this post for an example of how a turtleneck adds interest to the outfit. Here are some of the softest warmest turtlenecks I've found:

Thanks for reading and have a great rest of the week! Are you getting in the holiday mood? xo
