Happy New Year everyone! A good and warm camel coat that works in a Boston winter has been on my list for a while. Not only is it a staple for pretty much anyone's wardrobe, it's also the perfect compliment to my usual palette of brights and prints. I've linked several cute options at a variety of price points so if you're on the hunt for a neutral winter coat that will stay in style forever, check out the options I've linked above and in the post.

I have to say I really dread January and February, and sometimes March and April:( East coast winters are way too long. I spent my first winter in Boston huddling indoors and when I did venture out, stuck with leggings and thick fleece tops. That was a total mood killer. As a pear shape I really don't look very good in most pants so I hated spending several months being so reliant on them. Conventional wisdom is that you need to have your legs covered in the winter. I've found that I can quite happily and warmly live with bare legs as long as I have good warm layers, a longer hem and warm socks. So screw the pants, I'm sticking with my skirts and dresses most of this winter.

Something about gold buttons always does it for me - it's such a great detail. For a coat of such length where your entire body is covered, I stick with a close cut. As a petite, anything more billowy in a maxi length can be overwhelming. This camel maxi length Mackage coat has the added benefit of a belted waist and I wish I had this one too - such a great brand for women with smaller frames.

The right footwear can really make or break it in the winter. My first year in Boston I refused to get insulated boots and spent a lot of miserable days not being able to feel my toes after 10 minutes in freezing weather. Now I really appreciate insulation and Sorel does an amazing job at keeping your feet warm. They're also really cute as far as snow boots go. I love the wedge boots with their high contrast laces, the arch support and the urban chic look.

Under my coat I wore a super soft off-white sweater. I bought several white knits over Christmas and can't wait to wear them all through the remaining winter months. Mine is linked in the outfit details and was super inexpensive and relatively simple. I found this Ralph Lauren one for under $65 and am ordering it because the shawl collar and cable-knit are so pretty.

Last but not least, I love my olivey-gold pleated midi-skirt, not shown well in this post at all - sorry! I almost didn't mention it since you can barely see it but it's such a fun piece that I thought I should anyway. I live in midis (I'm sure you're completely sick of them if you've been to my blog before) and this one joined my wardrobe a couple of weeks ago. Metallic, pleated, gold - what's not to like. Wearing a little shimmer past the holiday season keeps winter from being too dull.

Thanks so much for stopping by and wishing you a wonderful 2017 full of happiness and success!
