MONDAY STYLE: KILL IT AT WORK WITH A POWER DRESS

work style, week day wardrobe, power dress, boardroom style, mad men, feminine dress, hourglass shape, best styles for pear shapes
Happy Monday everyone! I wanted to post a power work look today, although if I was looking for one look that epitomizes my style, this would probably be it. I'm so happy the Mad Men style clothes are so on trend right now. Did anyone else watch that show? I loved Christina Hendrick's character. I can't pretend I can fill this dress out like she can but I still love it!

I got off topic but what I wanted to say was that it's always great to start your week with a power outfit that sets you up for success for the week. For me my Mad Men dress is the perfect example of a power dress that boosts your confidence and makes you feel great.

A few style tips to find the perfect power dress for work are:

Pick a bold standout color that makes you happy. Sometimes that color is just plain black and that's okay too. Speaking of color, I should say that this dress is called Red on ASOS but it's actually more of an orange.

Look for structure in the cut, fit and drape. This one is a medium weight material, not as heavy as the ponte that many office clothes are made out of, but still heavy enough to give a nice drape and coverage

Pick the right hem length for you and your legs! For most work environments, too short isn't great but honestly, everyone's body is different and if the rest of your outfit is appropriately styled then I think you have more leeway with a shorter hem. I'm obsessed with the midi lengths right now - they're so elegant and feminine.

I went with simple camel/nude pumps with this outfit because the dress really takes front and center and I like to keep my look not too busy. You know I love my heels, especially classic neutral pumps which are every girl's best friend. A nude pump also really helps to elongate your leg and is particularly helpful for petites or pear shaped women like me.

Thanks for reading and support. My blog is just a few weeks old so every follow really helps and I sincerely appreciate your taking the time to follow it. It's also the best way to take advantage of sale prices on anything I'm wearing. I tend to buy a lot of things on sale (as my dress is here) so there's a good chance that something you see posted is on sale! See you mid-week with my next post.
