Now that the Thanksgiving gluttony is over and we can sit back and let our pants out (figuratively speaking since I rarely wear pants), the shopping fever is on. Some of the biggest sales of the year are happening now and this is a great time to stock up on those winter essentials as well as Christmas and holiday gifts. I most often tend to give and also love to get, accessories since you can find so many cute accessories under $50. In this post I'm sharing a few of the things I'm gifting, as well as buying myself haha. All are on sale since there's not much reason to buy anything full price right now unless you're going for specific designer items.

WORK STYLE: EMERALD, NAVY AND PLEATS

For off, to all my US friends, Happy Thanksgiving weekend! I'm a serious fan of the last quarter of the year despite the tanking temps out here in Boston. Aside from the culinary indulgences and total license to chill that this weekend brings, there are also some really nice sales at all price points. I'm focusing my purchases on great sweaters and coats because nothing bores me more than wearing black outerwear all winter. So in this outfit I went with emerald and navy - two colors I love and which work so well together. My coat is only $60 at the moment and still available online.

WORK STYLE: COZY TURTLENECK AND WINE LACE SKIRT

This Fall has been so beautiful - so many sunny days and we're still getting weather in the high 50's! It's great to not yet have to wear a coat every day. For this kind of weather, turtlenecks are always my go to and my current favorite chunky turtlenecks are hands down from J.Crew and J.Crew Factory (how cute is this red one for the holidays!). I wear them pretty liberally all Fall and Winter with pencil skirts or layered over dresses for work. They also make such a warm middle layer if you like to wear blazers to wear or on the weekend.

RED WINTER COAT AND OTHER PREPPY WINTER FINDS

COAT: J.CREW | BAG: ZARA (no longer available online it seems). Also love THIS | BOOTS: old, new HERE

Hope everyone's having a great Fall so far! Temps have been dropping gradually in Boston and it's already chilly enough to warrant wearing a coat. I love red in general but really love it when it comes to outerwear because it stands out among the mass of black coats most people tend to wear. I also find that bright colors genuinely cheer me up and on a dark winter morning, a warm and stylish red coat really helps with the mood!

WORK STYLE: DARK FLORALS AND HUNTER GREEN

SKIRT: similar HERE and HERE | TURTLENECK: ASOS | HAT: HINGE | BOOTS: VINCE CAMUTO on SALE| BAG: ZARA

My floral obsession continues ladies. As we move closer to the official start of Winter I've simply swapped out my light florals with dark ones. Honestly, I know we all use the word "obsessed" quite a bit but that's really the only description for my constant pull towards flowery prints. This particular skirt was even hanging way above my eye-level at Forever 21 but somehow it caught my attention. As is often the case with Forever items, I can't seem to find this one online but I did find 2 other very similar ones. As always with Forever, the price point and designer knock-off elements are undeniable. These floral prints remind me of this stunning Erdem floral, which is of course way beyond my budget. I'm always so happy to find inexpensive options for my work wardrobe.

FALL SWEATERS AND STYLE TIPS FOR CHIC LAYERING

Tuesday, November 1, 2016

fall fashion, style tips, nordstrom, petite fashion, fall sweaters, chunky knits, plaid, fall beanie, pompom, straw tote, suede sandals, texture, petite blogger, how to style fall looks, targetstyle

HAT: HINGE | SWEATER: similar HERE and budget version HERE | BUTTON-UP: TARGET | SKIRT: similar HERE | SHOES: similar HERE | BAG: KAYU | RINGS: FOREVER 21

For the last few weeks it's been all about soft knits for me and luckily I've been finding a ton that are both cute and affordable. If you're a fan of skirts and dresses, nothing beats the slouchy knit plus long skirt/dress combo. It's quick to throw on, warm and super comfortable. If you're more a jeans type, just swap out the skirt with jeans and you have just as chic and easy of an outfit. I included 2 simple styling tips below that you can use to style your fall knits perfectly.

I love the layering opportunities an oversize sweater gives you. Give me all the neutral, solid, non-itchy knits for this coming Winter! I couldn't find this particular one online (boo) but if you check out your local Forever 21 you might see it there. I did find a really similar one in a pretty grey online that I linked in the outfit details. A neutral solid sweater goes with anything an is perfect for showing little pops of color, like my red plaid button-down (layered under the sweater here). This marled boxy turtleneck in mauve/ivory is another soft one that doesn't irritate my skin. I'm a creature of comfort and honestly, a non-itchy sweater that drapes well can be very hard to come by so I'm happy to bring some itch-free finds to you today.

READY FOR HOLIDAY PARTIES - FLORAL PARTY SKIRT

Friday, October 21, 2016

party outfit, dressy, occasion wear, party attire, semi-formal, halloween, thanksgiving, shein, red, feminine, petite fashion, fall fashion, office party, evening wear

And here we are, it's party time again! I count mid-October as the official start of the holiday season. Halloween is just a few days away and seems to bring just as many adult festivities as it does kid activities. From there, Thanksgiving is just a few short weeks away, and then of course Christmas and New Year's! So for me, October is the official marker of the start of the party season. In previous years I invariably went with dresses for parties of any kind but this year I'm breaking tradition and adding a new player into the mix - a sweeping skirt. I love the idea of a beautiful midi or maxi skirt that can styled easily for office parties (like here with a simple turtleneck) or done up for a more intimate night out with maybe a bustier or lacy camisole and strappy red sandals.

THE CLASSIC PIECE EVERY WOMAN NEEDS FOR FALL

Fall is in full swing! I just came down with a cold that's taking forever to kick and missed this week's blog post. I've also been slow this year with building my Fall wardrobe. As you might know about me, I live in dresses and skirts. And I don't plan to give them up in Fall or Winter. My wardrobe strategy for these two seasons tends to be focused on figuring out how to wear summer pieces and still be warm. But there's one piece I always get new in the Fall and that's a great quality wool turtleneck. In previous years I've stuck with Club Monaco turtlenecks but this year I ventured out of my routine and grabbed this grey thin-knit merino wool one.

HOW TO CREATE CUTE WORK OUTFITS IN THE FALL: 3 STYLE TRICKS

Thursday, September 29, 2016

fall fashion, style tips, work style, corporate style, office style, professional attire, corporate chic, sleeveless trench, feminine style, petite fashion, petite style, 9 to 5 chic, business attire, mules, lace dress, work satchel

Fall is all about layering and one essential piece, especially for work, is a sleeveless vest or trench. A sleeveless trench works really well for the office for both Summer and Fall depending on the fabric you choose. I like having a simple camel option in my wardrobe because it compliments Fall colors like brown, red, navy. My trench is a light material that I wore quite a bit in the summer. If I were buying one for the Fall and Winter, I'd go with a slightly warmer one in wool or wool-blend for more functionality in the colder months (linked above and below).

Fashion is mostly art but it's also a little bit science and therefore, formulaic. This work outfit is based on of my favorite style formulas so in this post I'm sharing 3 style tricks that you can use to create chic work outfits for Fall with pieces you have in your own wardrobe.

CASUAL FALL STYLE: RUST DRESS AND ELBOW-PATCH SWEATER

Fall Fashion Dress and Sweater

DRESS: NORDSTROM | SWEATER: ASOS | HAT: FOREVER 21 similar HERE | SANDALS: ZARA similar HERE or HERE | SUNGLASSES: old, similar HERE, also obsessed with THESE under $25!

It's the first week of Fall! Do I look a little like a pumpkin in this outfit? Honestly, I love this dress and the rust color so I don't care if I do:) I love anything in the rust/orange section of the color wheel and this one is actually a really great color that mixes well with both neutrals as well other Fall colors like plum and burgundy. Even hunter green would look so pretty with this.

This day started out cool and then warmed up as many Fall days in Boston tend to do, so one outfit formula I rely on quite a bit is pairing a dress with a knit that I can either drape around my shoulders, carry in my bag or tie around my waist when I'm not wearing it. Scroll down to see the dress with my cute new elbow-patch knit - perfect petite-fit and available in petite, regular and tall sizes!

Fall Jackets and Luxe Fall Trends

COAT: FREE PEOPLE | BLOUSE: ANN TAYLOR | JEANS: AG (on sale) | PUMPS: OLD, similar HERE | BAG: OLD, similar HERE | SUNGLASSES: LOFT (on sale) | WATCH: DANIEL WELLINGTON

I've always loved Fall fashion and particularly beautiful outerwear so I'm having a hard time not buying up every gorgeous Fall jacket I see. I keep reminding myself that I'm a wardrobe minimalist and having too many coats, no matter how pretty they are, goes against my wardrobe philosophy. This plaid camel/warm beige long "coat" was impossible to resist because it's simultaneously eye-catching and versatile. Those two things don't often come together and when they do, it's worth the buy. I've also linked to 3 other jackets I've been salivating over below. I put "coat" in quotes here because this is really more of a long cardigan or coatigan rather than a coat.

MILITARY-INSPIRED DRESS

 Fall Fashion Military Dress

DRESS: J.CREW | SHOES: LUCKY BRAND | BAG: LOUIS VUITTON | CAP: NORDSTROM or the luxury version HERE | SUNGLASSES: STELLA MCCARTNEY

The weekend's almost here! Just a quick post today to share this super cool military-inspired dress that can transition easily between weekend and a casual day at work. This fatigue shirt dress is the definition of urban cool and currently on sale for 25% off with CODE SHOPNOW. It's also a blank canvas to be styled however you want. For my expedition to a local museum with my husband and daughter, I styled the dress very simply. I just added a neutral baseball cap to make the look super casual and um, also to cover my always-messy hair. The dress is incredibly comfortable (so soft) and the ever so slightly below-the-knee length and tiered skirt are so figure flattering.

WORK STYLE: PLEATED SKIRT AND FLORAL TOP

SKIRT: TOPSHOP | BLOUSE: HALOGEN | CARDIGAN: ANN TAYLOR | SHOES: SOLE SOCIETY | WATCH: CLUSE | SUNGLASSES: LOFT | BAG: MARC JACOBS

My love affair with pleated midi skirts continues! If you follow me on Instagram you probably saw that I said I'm trying to build a rainbow of pleated midis and I was only half-kidding. Pleated midi skirts are effortlessly stylish, which make them very hard to resist. For someone who likes easy dressing options pleated midis are a must-have. I actually own the navy version of this skirt and loved it so much that I bought this chartreuse color as well. Both outfits are styled using a similar color palette - yellows, navy and white. You can see the other skirt and the look here if you missed it. If you like the idea of a capsule or small wardrobe, the pieces from these 2 posts combined, plus a pair of  jeans, a white tee and hat, can easily give you 6 or 7 outfits. You can mix and match the pieces to create both work and casual looks. I've listed a few combinations using the pieces from these 2 posts if you have or like the colors here and want to expand your outfit choices using just a few pieces.

Fall Fashion with Ann Taylor Loft Dress

This week the fashion world and everyone who's fashion-obsessed is immersed in New York Fashion Week. As I watch the shows I'm always reminded of how egalitarian fashion truly is. Anyone who wants to can be a part of it because we create fashion and beauty every day through the outfits we decide to wear and the way in which we style them.  Today's post is a good example of what I mean. With the use of a simple cloche, some drape and a midi hemline, I'm creating a vintage feel with contemporary pieces (all for under $100).

PRE-FALL STYLE: PINK LACE SKIRT AND DENIM JACKET

Fall Style Pink Lace Skirt and Lace-Up Shoes

SKIRT: FOREVER 21 | BLOUSE: ANN TAYLOR | DENIM JACKET: LOFT | HAT: BRIXTON VIA NORDSTROM | LACE-UP SHOES: H&M

September is one of my favorite months. There's a promise of new things as the season changes and a the air takes on a refreshing briskness. I love that at this time of year we have flexibility with what we wear and how we style it. It's not so hot that you're forced to wear as little as possible, and not so cold that you have no choice but to wear a jacket. We can layer for style when we want to but not be compelled to, which is nice. In these transitional weeks I tend to combine my Summer favorites with one or two Fall pieces to get the most out of my wardrobe.

FALL FASHION: CASTLES, GLADIATORS AND FLORALS

Fall Fashion - Florals and Gladiator Wedge Booties

With September here I'm breaking out the dark florals and longer sleeves. If you like a feminine style that won't break the bank, this dress is it. The dark grey background and small clusters of vintage-y florals are a nice balance between girly and conservative. Currently on sale with an extra 40% off, this little maxi packs major feminine style details for under $50. Ruffles, hydrangeas, blouson waist  and fully-lined for under $50 - pretty sweet.

SUMMER DAYS: ROMANTIC FLORAL WRAP SKIRT

Monday, August 29, 2016

romantic, summer style, casual outfit, dressy, floral, sweeping, dramatic, feminine, petite fashion, lookbook, colorful, leafy print, easy style, affordable fashion, trendy, wrap skirt, platform, straw tote, boater hat, forever 21

Summer's drawing to a close and while the heat's been a little oppressive, I'm enjoying wearing all the summer styles while I can. Light fabrics, floral prints, and romantic airy styles are some of my favorites for summer and this skirt is all that rolled into one. The bold red and pink tones and the leafy print are so pretty and I love the movement as you walk! For something this inexpensive (only $20) I got a disproportional number of compliments on this skirt - always a good thing.

WORK OR WEEKEND: LITTLE RED DRESS

Thursday, August 25, 2016

work outfit, work style, office style, little red dress, pullover, tieneck, floral, summer style, petite fashion, work to drinks, banana republic, versatile, blazer, red bag, tortoiseshell sunglasses, trendy, affordable style, personal stylist, boston style, weekend style, colorful, feminine

Earlier this week I wore a black and white look for work with a blazer and pants from Banana Republic. The blazer is so versatile that I wore it a couple of different times over the course of the week. This post is Part 2 - the blazer styled for a dinner or drinks look, worn over this red floral print dress. I love this vivid shade of red - a fiery lipstick red that really stands out. Don't buy this dress if you don't want people to notice you!

For me personally, I like a stand-out color (follow me on Instagram if you like color!) I'm not a morning person and a punchy color, along with coffee, helps a little. I read an article recently that listed the best ways to feel awake and invigorated in the morning and the top suggestion was to get outside in the fresh air as soon as you wake up. Wearing a bright color wasn't one of the methods listed, but I highly recommend it:)

WORK STYLE: BLACK PANT SUIT

Work Style - Versatile Separates with Banana Republic
BLAZER: C/O BANANA REPUBLIC | PANTS: C/O BANANA REPUBLIC | BLOUSE: BANANA REPUBLIC | SHOES: OLD, SIMILAR HERE

If you've been to my blog before you know that I like a lean wardrobe. And a lean wardrobe needs to be made up of versatile pieces that can be styled in different ways. This blazer and my Avery cropped pants are two key pieces that are truly versatile and can be worn together and separately, for work or for play. I wore them here together for a formal suit look but I also wore the blazer over a dress for dinner the other night. With Fall around the corner, a light-weight classic blazer that you can layer under is such a good investment.

SLEEVELESS MAXI FOR DAY OR NIGHT

DRESS: NORDSTROM | TEE: NORDSTROM, similar HERE | HAT: FOREVER 21 | SHOES: VINCE CAMUTO | SUNGLASSES: LOFT

I appreciate hot weather so much more now than back when I lived in LA. In Boston, I try to get the most outdoor time possible because I know that in a few short months I'll be surrounded by snow and will never want to leave my couch! This weekend I'm packing in a mix of city and beach activities and will be relying on my printed summer maxis for easy weekend style. I tend not to spend over $50 for any one printed summer item and this dress is no exception, currently on sale for $28 (almost half off).

WORK STYLE: BLUSH DRESS AND NAVY BLAZER

Monday, August 15, 2016

blazer, navy, blush, work dress, peach, nude, office style, corporate chic, nude sandals, taupe, vince camuto, banana republic, uniqlo, petite fashion, summer style

DRESS: UNIQLO, also got this STRIPED BELTED SHIRTDRESS | BLAZER: BANANA REPUBLIC | SANDALS: VINCE CAMUTO | BELT: ANN TAYLOR | BAG: MARC JACOBS

Blush is one of my favorite colors this year so it's not a surprise that I was drawn to this dress. I love that this dress is a different style from my standard work go-tos. My standard picks tend to be wrap dresses and pencil skirts, so this is a nice change. The pale pink keeps you looking cool on hot summer days and it would be perfect for a brunch or a baby shower too! I'm thinking pink cupcakes,  pink lemonade, and this pink dress:)  I definitely didn't do it justice with my frizzy hair and my end of the day pictures - sorry!

CASUAL STRIPED DRESS

 Summer Style Tank Dress
DRESS | SNEAKERS | STRAW TOTE (similar, mine isn't available online) | HAT (similar to mine and comes in different sizes versus one size fits all)

When the weather turns blazing hot, a simple tank dress does the trick. This one is one of the most comfortable ones I've worn all summer. The material is really soft, it has a relaxed cut, and bonus - it comes with a built-in shelf bra. This is a huge benefit for me since the bra is actually supportive versus just a flimsy piece of padding. This little tank dress is perfect for my weekends when I'm doing kid stuff (playgrounds and other outdoor activities) as well as meeting up with friends. And also running a million errands. It's like being in hyper-drive so I need an outfit that works for all these different occasions and locations, and looks cute as well.

SOFT TRENCH AND LACY CAMI: PRE-FALL STYLE

Tuesday, August 9, 2016

prefall style, pre-fall 2016, petite fashion, leith, nordstrom, draped trench, belted trench, black suede pumps, boyfriend jeans, rebecca minkoff, topshop, transitional style, loft

Happy Tuesday! I wanted to share this pre-Fall look with you because Fall is only a few short weeks away. Hard to believe right now as we sweat through 90 degree days but as Fall pieces flood the stores the reality of cooler weather coming soon is impossible to ignore. At least Fall fashion is so much fun! One of the most important things in my closet for Fall is light outwear and my favorite style is a trench. I love this draped soft trench for under $100 and was happily surprised that it worked on my petite frame even though it's not petite-sized. It also comes in Camel, which I might grab.

TASSEL SKIRT AND METALLIC SNEAKERS

Thursday, August 4, 2016

tassel skirt, outfit casual, sporty, metallic sneakers, crop top, loft, h&m, straw hat, city chic, urban style, street style

Ah the weekend! You guys know I typically spend weekends in some sort of dress or skirt, plus wedge or platform sandal combo. So cropped top and sneakers is completely different for me. Are you surprised? Sneakers have for the past few years featured prominently in the model-off-duty look - so very chic. Over the years I've flirted with this trend but honestly was never fully happy with the results. Anyway, fast forward to this awesome metallic pair I found just a few days ago and I was sold. After buying these, I'm now in a sneaker shopping frenzy and bought this cute printed pair that has a platform - best of both worlds!

WORK STYLE: NAVY PLEATS WITH A SPLASH OF LEMON AND LIME

Tuesday, August 2, 2016

Work Style Navy Skirt Stripes and Lemon Lime
Pleats, midi length anything, and stripes - these are a few of my favorite things! Hope you guys aren't getting bored of seeing midis on the blog because I have a feeling this trend is going to stick around for a little while yet. This navy skirt from the Nordstrom Anniversary sale, which I had linked on the blog a few days ago, finally arrived and it's perfection, particularly for under $60. It's going up to $85 on August 8 so if you like it, grab it soon. I like to think of myself as something of a midi-skirt connoisseur and seriously, this skirt is one of the best I've had. Read more to see why.

MATCHY MATCHY - STRIPES, PEPLUM AND MIDI

Friday, July 29, 2016

Summer StripesI've been looking for a matching separates for a while and finally found these - love! If you like color or stripes or a lean wardrobe, you have to grab this matching set. Wearing them together is such an easy and trendy color statement, and of course you can also wear them separately with so many different things.

The colors are so vibrant, just right for summer. I like that you can play with the look by matching accessories to either the navy, pinks or bright orange color bands. It's nice that you can get little slices of all of these colors without having to commit to one. This top, for example, is perfect with my favorite skinny jeans, now part of the Nordstrom sale, or a pair of classic white shorts. Read on for more details on the outfit as well as a fun weekend surprise giveaway.

WORK STYLE: THE WRAP DRESS

Tuesday, July 26, 2016

ann taylor, wrap dress, work style, corporate chic, office wear, petite fashion, cute dress, summer style, professional, dress for success, block heels, work chic

It's been a very hot July and when the weather gets so sticky it can be harder to figure out what to wear to work. Blazers are less appealing and pants on a hot summer day are out of the question for me. On those days one of my favorite things to wear to work is a wrap dress. It's a feminine, yet structured - perfect for the office.

I picked this one up a few days ago because of the pretty navy diamond print and the fit of this dress. My summer wardrobe has been dominated by floral prints recently so this diamond print lets me mix it up a little! This is definitely going to be a regular in my weekly rotation. Read on for details on fit and sizing and how to wear this dress for evening.

CASUAL SUMMER DRESS PLUS MORE NORDSTROM SALE PICKS

Thursday, July 21, 2016

summer style, petite fashion, mididress, target style, who what wear, womenswear, lucky brand, madewell, petite blogger, personal style, weekend style

We're in the dog days of summer now, with high heat and humidity every day, and this dress has been on repeat. I notice that the dresses I wear the most are the ones that are comfortable, don't require too much styling and are machine washable. Not to be gross but on a 90 degree plus day there's inevitably some sweat involved and anything I can't machine-wash is much less likely to be worn.

Also, the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale opened to the public today and there are some major deals to be scored. Last week I linked some of my first round picks and after going through the sale some more I've rounded up 3 super cute dresses, an amazing skirt for work, and a couple of gorgeous Fall jackets (I can't resist coats and jackets!) If this dress doesn't interest you all that much and you want to get straight to the sale stuff, scroll all the way down to the bottom of the post to see my Nordstrom picks!

FLORAL BLOUSE, SUMMER CARDIGAN AND PETITE JEANS REVIEW

Tuesday, July 19, 2016

petite fashion, petite style, relaxed jeans, casual outfit, floral top, summer fashion, nordstrom sale, petite stylist, dark rinse jeans, everyday outfit, long cardigan, summer layers, nars
If you read my post last week you know that the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is underway, the Early Access portion at least. I took full advantage of the sale to start shopping Fall pieces I know I'm going to need. I shared my tips for Fall wardrobe updates and linked my favorite Fall pieces from the Nordstrom sale - many of which are already sold out so if you're interested in grabbing sale items, I would jump on it right away.

I also picked up a few things to wear now and this floral blouse was one of them. I like the almost vintage feel to this tie-neck floral top. The tiny floral print combined with the pink/red combo reminds me of the china my grandmother used to serve tea with. I know that's not much of a selling point but I love it and there's no question that it brings jeans to life. If you're a jeans girl, check out my favorite summer tops below - they make putting together cute outfits so easy.

Even though we're in the middle of summer and it's hard to imagine cooler weather, I'm starting to think ahead to Fall. I blame it on rainy days and retailers. Right about now is when Fall items are starting to hit stores. From past experience, (both my own and as a personal stylist shopping for clients) I've learned that it's important to get in the game early. That way you have your pick of sizing, colors and styles. It's also good to have a strategy for seasonal wardrobe planning so I'm sharing mine below.

Styling Tricks: How to Style a Dress as a Vest
I like having a small but highly functional wardrobe. By highly functional I mean a wardrobe in which every piece gets worn, a lot. Whenever I buy something I try to think of a few ways I could wear it. That way you don't have too many one-trick ponies in your closet. This "vest" is actually a midi-length sleeveless dress - a perfect example of something that can be styled several ways. I'm sharing 3 ways to style this piece though I unfortunately only had time to take pics of two.

Summer Dress and Vacation Style
If you've visited my blog before, it will come as no surprise to you that I'm in a floral print. While I never need an excuse to wear florals, I was just on vacation and nothing says summer vacation more than a romantic floral dress. With some major twirl factor and movement to it of course. I wore this beautiful dress while in Cape Cod trip a few days ago and got so many compliments. I also packed and wore this Loft maxi in the most beautiful blues and this Ann Taylor Sundrenched Floral Flare dress. I've included details on each dress below as well as hand-picked and linked some of my favorite summer dresses.

WORK STYLE: FLORAL MIDI SKIRT AND BLUSH BLOUSE

Tuesday, July 5, 2016

floral skirt, vince camuto, neutral sandals, dressy outfit, work outfit, work style, petite style, fashion tips, style tips, light pink, zara, target style, office wear, corporate chic, boss woman, power dressing
I'm back from vacation! For those of you who saw that I missed my weekend post, I'm sorry! I went to Cape Cod for a few days and it was amazing. I'll have outfit pics and vacay details up soon but there needless to say there was lots of eating, beaching and floral-wearing involved.

Speaking of florals, surprise surprise, here's a floral look. Floral prints have been one of my favorite trends this year. I've also been really drawn to pale pinks and luckily, florals and blush make a happy pairing. It's funny I have so many pale pinks in my closet when all I ever wore before were bright colors. With Rose Quartz being the color of the year, there are so many more shades of pink available this year that I suppose it was inevitable that I'd get hooked. If you're on the fence about pink it might be a matter of finding the right shade for you. A good general guideline is that cooler pinks work better on light complexions whereas warmer pinks like peach and taupe-y pink work better on darker skin tones.

BLUE/WHITE STRIPES FOR JULY 4

July 4 Outfit and Striped Off-The-Shoulder Dress

The 4th of July is almost here! This year we're headed to Cape Cod for the holiday weekend. A little beach time, ice-cream and fireworks will be so good. I'm excited to have a vacation that doesn't involve flying. Road trips are fun because you decide when and where you stop - endless opportunities for adventure and serendipitous discoveries. Speaking of serendipity, I found this dress a few days ago, just in time for Independence Day while "window-shopping". I don't think I know the meaning of the word because I pretty much always buy something while claiming to be window-shopping.

If you're undecided on what to wear for July 4, a blue/white striped dress is always a good choice in my book because you can wear it all summer. Depending on what your plans are you can dress this type of dress up or down.  I styled it here in the traditional red, white and blue but you can easily change the look by swapping out accessories like the shoes and bag. I've linked my favorite blue/white dresses below as well as some accessory swaps that change the look.

WORK STYLE: A LITTLE BLACK DRESS IN EYELET

For all of summer's stunning brights, pretty pastels and beautiful prints, a simple black dress is still a must-have in any summer wardrobe. I don't generally wear a lot of black but every season I'm seduced by at least one black day dress that I end up wearing over and over again. Last summer it was a cotton sleeveless black tank dress from Gap - very similar to this one here. And this season it's this drawstring black eyelet number that I've already worn twice in one week. If you ever feel like you have "nothing to wear" you need this dress!

SUMMER MAXI LOVE

Summer's officially begun and with it comes the heat and humidity. If you've visited my blog before you know that I love maxi dresses. So as you might guess, summer is fashion heaven for me. I find maxi dresses to be so feminine yet supremely comfortable at the same time. On a really hot sunny day there's nothing I'd prefer to wear. It's counter-intuitive but the sunnier it is the more I want to wear long flowy pieces. Think about it, easy sun protection and bug protection too. Bugs love me and in the summer I'm a bug buffet, so leg coverage is key!

MUSTARD MIDI SKIRT AND ANN TAYLOR TOP

One of the things I like most about living in Boston is how much character the city has and the beauty of its architecture. It has so many quaint corners and it's always fun to explore and see what I find. I was in Boston's Beacon Hill area when I stumbled across the most charming cobbled alley, pictured above. I was so grateful for my choice of footwear because I'm pretty sure I would have broken an ankle if I didn't have these low chunky heels on. As I always say, city sandals rock.

SUMMER'S SHOE MVP: THE CITY SANDAL

Tuesday, June 14, 2016

The shoe you need this summer
I don't think there's any question that the most valuable player in summer footwear is the city sandal, at least for day time wear. If you like heels, comfort and style, the city sandal is your answer. I wear a block heel almost every day in the summer to wear with florals, printed and bright summer outfits. I also like that a block heel makes your outfit look more urban and wearable. It helps balance out ultra feminine outfits like flowy dresses and skirts, which I wear a lot of, and prevents the look from getting too girly.

The good and bad news is there's a sea of options to choose from. I've waded through a ton of them and am sharing my top 5 favorite city sandals.  Two things they all have in common is that they're super comfortable and affordable. I also picked neutral pairs that will go with almost any color scheme and work with both warm and cool tones. My favorite neutral colors this season are camel, burgundy, and pale pink. With these three colors I can style any outfit and avoid black and white if I want to.

Here are my 5 favorites right now, not listed in any particular order:

WORK STYLE: STRIPED TWIN SET AND MIDI SKIRT

I've always thought that I wasn't great with inconsistency and change and yet my life is full of it and I do fine. So I must not be that bad at it. These past couple of years in New England have definitely taught me to go with the flow a little more. It's not unusual for the weather to swing from perfect and sunny to a torrential rain to a sudden 20 degree drop in temps all within the course of a week. While you have to pretty much have your entire wardrobe at hand all year it's been a fun challenge to keep up with the whims of the weather. This day was extra windy on top of the rain. I can't tell you how many times my umbrella almost flew out of my hand but kudos to the manufacturer that it didn't suffer the dreaded inverted-umbrella fate that cheaper ones do.

PAISLEY SILK SKIRT AND BUTTON DOWN

Sunday, June 5, 2016

anthropologie, paisley, silk skirt, summer maxi, summer style, cork wedge, summer lookbook, farmer's market, straw tote, wedges, banana republic, button-down shirt, petite fashion, floaty. madewell, jcrew
Yesterday was a perfect day for the farmer's market. The sun was out, the birds were chirping, I was with my family and all was right with the world! We went to a market that was a mix of produce, flowers and some street art, which was a nice surprise. We actually got there a little early, right as they were setting up, so it worked out perfectly for snapping a few pics for the blog. I love light breathable fabrics in the summer and a floaty skirt paired with cork and straw accessories is a fail-safe recipe for summer style. This weekend I debuted my new silk paisley skirt from Anthropologie, a store I haven't shopped at in a long time. The colors of this skirt are such a fun medley - peacock colors.

WHITE SUMMER SKIRT AND WATERCOLOR BLOUSE

Tuesday, May 31, 2016

Perfect Summer Skirt
Hope everyone had an awesome weekend. We had a mix of sun and clouds and the day I wore this it was mostly clouds as you can see from the pictures. I'm not complaining though. I'm just happy it's not cold anymore and I can wear dresses and skirts! I love color but I also love neutrals, especially white, and nothing says summer quite like white. This midi-skirt I picked up is going to be such a summer staple and is incredibly well-made for the price. The length is classic midi, hitting a few inches below the knee - one of my favorite lengths right now. It's so flattering and elegant on women of all heights.

BOHO MAXI DRESS + NORDSTROM SALE PICKS

summer, summer style, maxi dress, memorial day outfit, lookbook, boho, blush top, blush belt, petite fashion, what to wear, how to, easy outfit, target style, ann taylor, street level, street style, style blog

Happy Memorial Day weekend! I hope you have the best holiday weekend wherever you are. Now that we're getting some summer weather I'm going to be wearing lots of dresses...and hats. No hats in this post, though looking at my limp hair maybe a hat would have been a good call. I'm terrible with hair and getting worse instead of better. I have a hair cut in two weeks (new place) and will be barraging the poor hair stylist with questions on how I can style my hair better. She'll offer up all kinds of excellent advice and I'll nod back and then...my hair will still look the same because I'm that terrible with hair. Oh well!

I love all kind of dresses - solids and prints, long and short, classic, preppy or boho. I love it all. This dress is from a place I've been buying clothes at way too much lately. I really like the mix of reds, pinks, and blues, and the floral and paisley print next to each gives off a whimsical vibe that is so summery.

COBALT CRUSH: PLEATED MIDI AND REVERSE CARDIGAN

Tuesday, May 24, 2016

spring style, business casual, work outfit, ladylike, elegant, midiskirt, pleated skirt, cobalt blue, royal blue, blue pumps, sole society, j.crew style, utility jacket, cargo jacket

I always thought that as I got older my love for bright colors would fade and I would start wearing only neutral colors but I'm more in love with color than ever before. I do love my neutrals too though. Orange was always my favorite bright color but this year cobalt blue and red might be beating out orange...it's a toss up. The top you see here is actually my cobalt cardigan that you might have seen in this work look a few weeks ago. This way of styling it changes the look and lets my get more use out of this piece. BLUSH LACE BLOUSE AND ANN TAYLOR CURVY JEANS REVIEW

Friday, May 20, 2016

curvy jeans, petite jeans, skinny ankle jeans, spring lookbook, layers, vest, blush lace top, lace blouse, blush sandals, petite fashion, spring style, trendy style
The weekend's finally here! It felt like a long week to me. How is everyone's Memorial Day weekend planning going? I'm still up in the air as far as plans but as long as it involves sun and fun I'm happy. Apologies that the leading picture in this post is an awkward pose with my handbag strap clearly tangled up between my blouse and vest but these are the realities of a windy spring day!
There are two firsts for me in this post - my first time finding a lace popover that isn't too boxy and my first time wearing and reviewing Ann Taylor jeans in a "curvy" fit. I was very excited to try the jeans since my curves are simultaneously my greatest asset and the bane of my existence. If you're interested in Ann Taylor denim, read on for my review.

AN UNFUSSY WAY TO STYLE A MIDI SKIRT

Tuesday, May 17, 2016

A simple way to style a midiskirtMy favorite time in Boston is summer and summer's almost here! The warm weather is fleeting, lasting only two or three months at best and it rains often. So when you get days that are both warm and sunny it's perfect and precious. We had one of these perfect days recently. Luckily it was a Sunday so I got to spend it with my husband and daughter. We spent the day walking around the city coffee in hand. The city is really so beautiful when you're not freezing and hurrying to get inside. We stopped in at various places for sweet treats, and ending with a mandatory visit to the playground for my daughter - my perfect Sunday. I love how my little munchkin always so excited to go to playgrounds even though she goes to one almost every day. She strains to get out of the car or stroller as we pull up and then is off at a run the second her feet touch the ground.

It was the perfect day to wear my new fiery orange-red midi-skirt. I want to buy two of these in case I spill something on this one.

RUFFLED SWEATER AND JOGGER PANTS

Saturday, May 14, 2016

jogger, casual pants, work to weekend, light blue pumps, fedora, banana republic, pullover, navy sweater, striped sweater, spring outfit, spring lookbook, petite fashion, mommy style, easy chic, mommy glam, red bag, dressy casual, fashion blog, petite style, style blog, street style, easy outfit
My love affair with red and navy continues. Earlier this week I wore a navy double-dot shirt-dress and accessorized it with a red belt and red satchel.  And then the weekend rolled around and here I am in another navy/red ensemble. What can I say, these two colors just go so well together and when you have a small wardrobe like me, it helps to keep most of your pieces to 3 or 4 colors that work in harmony with each together. For me (this year) those colors have been blues and reds, with black, white and nude/pinks strewn in. If you want a small but efficient wardrobe this color-focused strategy absolutely works.

WORK STYLE: DOUBLE DOT DRESS AND TRENCH

Work Style - Double Dot Dress

If you're familiar with my blog you know that I usually have to get dressed as if I'm in a race. It feels like what I imagine a Formula One driver feels like in the pit. So, an A-line dress that you just pull on (and can be worn from work to weekend) is heaven. This little polka dot dress is super cute, has split sides and is conveniently a little longer in the back than the front. It also has a hidden zipper front - that'll save you a minute in fumbling with buttons in the morning. Hey, every second counts!

A CHAMBRAY ROMPER

Sunday, May 8, 2016

Poolside Style
As I look at these pictures I have to say I miss the LA sun - Boston's been rainy and gloomy for days. Right before I went to LA I realized I didn't have much that was appropriate for sunny pool-side or beach weather. It was a great excuse to go shopping! Except that I didn't have any time - something that happens a lot now that I'm a mom. I had to make a mad dash to Target and buy everything there. It became a self-imposed #TargetStyle challenge.

The first item on my mental shopping list was a romper. This soft light blue romper is perfect for casual settings whether you're just walking to your local farmer's market or sitting poolside. It also doubles so well as a beach cover-up.
